Takako Minekawa - Cloudy Cloud Calculator. 1998 Emperor Norton EMN 7010-1. Takako Minekawa is a very interesting artist with an eclectic discography. She's made everything from cutesy rock ballads to high-concept textural ambient over the last two decades. This is her second full length album and it offers a little bit of many different musical styles. There are a few really sick synth-driven bangers that are almost straight techno, and spacey ballads that totally blur genre distinctions. Throughout these varied styles Minekawa continues to play with an aesthetic of innocence, and eventually leaves us with a warm and comfortable interpretation on the subject. This is definitely one I can listen to on repeat. Check it out.
