Akiko Yano - Tadaima. 2018 We Want Sounds WWSLP16. Originally released in 1981. Akiko Yano is one of the most unique artists that emerged from Japan's rapidly changing 20th century pop landscape. She has covered styles ranging from classic disco city Pop to avant-garde electronic. This record falls some in-between, sporting some upbeat synth pop tunes in addition to some psyched-out piano ballads. This record features some instrumentals performed by Yellow Magic Orchestra, and the whacky synth lines all over it make that apparent. Yano's vocal performances on these songs is also very unique. It sounds like a mix of western pop style and Japanese folk singing. Definitely a great piece for any enthusiast of early Japanese electronic.
